And why the fuck 2 pass encoding.Thats old stuff.
It's better for max compression.Not your case.
crf=16 - enough.
The range 18-26 is probably where you will want to look at. If you need absolutely perfect quality you could go down to 16, but it's probably not worth it. Around 19-21.5 is where a rip will look very good.Higher resolution encoding can generally get away with higher crf values (x264 developers comment).But you all knows.

If you want talk about compression methods go to sandbox like doom9.
We are perfectly about x264 and using crf2pass ratecontrol method. This method provides best quality.
